Taking my freelance to a new realm…

I signed up to upwork.com not too long ago as an income option in the mean time while applying for a full time employment position. This might prove to be more beneficial to me in the long run because I’ll be my own boss and work on my own time and make only as much money as I can sell. I’d never oversell myself and find myself in a position where I have more work than I have time for so I’m going to approach this freelance approach on upwork with a cautious mindset because it is possible that I get short changed.

Establishing a long term relationship.

I was recently contacted by someone who needed web development done for their systems. Instead of approaching this opportunity like any other job I considered this to be more of a independent contracted project. This means I’ll have to do the quoting of what needs to be done and for what duration the project will require to develop. The relationship should begin with transparency and trust. This way if the time estimations are inaccurate, discussions can emerge on new optimized optimizations as soon as the opportunity arises. It’s unlikely for an estimation to be 100% accurate all of the time and this is understandable. The backing behind the skills and experience required to complete the project should be a contributing factor to the confidence needed for an accurate projection.
